Amoroso (I)
Manuel Vieira Ramos, as he introduces himself, arrived in Brazil in 1938 and worked between Cadegue and the port of Rio de Janeiro as a banana farmer, like so many other Portuguese emigrants at that time. Manuel returned to Portugal for the first time, now fortunate, in 1986, when my father was already 16 and my grandfather, António, 51, after the death of his first wife, Rosa. I didn't know my great-grandfather, nor did my father really know him, nor did his son, my grandfather know him, my cousin Catarina had been born for a few months. Manuel Vieira Ramos died, like a little bird, as Grandma Julita tells us in her letters, at her home in Rio de Janeiro in 1996, 10 years ago.
